The Fish is Watching is a textile work developed in collaboration with photographer Reem Falaknaz for Ardh, an open-air photo studio co-created by the two artists, with its first edition set at Kalbuh Park in Muscat.

The textile draws on two figures from the artist’s family history: her grandfather, a porter and fisherman tied to the sea, and her grandmother, who traded fabric at Souq Muttrah. Those two worlds, water and cloth, converge in the piece, which centers a mythical fish-eye motif drawn from Baloch talismanic imagery. The eye watches without intervening. Falaknaz used the textile as a backdrop to photograph Muscat’s diverse communities, building a living archive of a city’s collective presence. The two practices, one object-based and one photographic, meet around the same question: what does it mean to be seen, and by whom.
