The Unfolding City

Muttrah Fort, Muscat
The Unfolding City is a site-specific multimedia installation built from materials collected and upcycled from Muttrah itself, commissioned for the fort that overlooks the city. Six textile curtains carry the structure of the work, each one a fold in a longer sensory recollection of a place shaped by memory, trade, and proximity to the sea.
The installation moves from image and object into sound: a soundscape woven from recordings gathered across the city, layered with excerpts from Love Poem to Muttrah by poet Saif Al Rahbi. Rather than reconstructing Muttrah, the work unfolds it, offering a non-linear encounter with the textures and rhythms that make a city hold meaning over time.
